Myofunctional devices ‘LM-activator’ have been successfully used for more than 20 years and differ from their analogues by a number of positive properties, including prevention and treatment of anomalies and deformities of the maxillofacial area.
What is LM-activator?
LM-activator is an orthodontic appliance for early treatment. It helps teeth take the correct position when they erupt. Standard appliances are shaped to fit the ideal occlusion and come in various sizes.
Combinations of models make it possible to find the right LM-activator for every patient. The therapeutic effect manifests through activating mandibular growth, eliminating bad habits, and normalising muscle function in the maxillofacial area.
At home, the activator is cleaned with a toothbrush and toothpaste, disinfected by boiling, and in a dental clinic it is autoclaved.
There are two modifications:
- low model — for correction of deep bite;
- high model — for the treatment of an open bite.
There are 13 sizes of the low model and 11 sizes of the high model. A special ruler (LM-OrthoSizer) is used for convenient sizing.
Indications and Contraindications for the Use of LM-activator
Indications for treatment:
- prevention of the development of bite anomalies through the elimination of bad habits and restoration of the correct functions of the dental mandibular system;
- bite disorders in the horizontal (distal bite), vertical (open and deep bite) and transversal (cross bite) planes;
- crowding of teeth in the incisor and cusp areas and their rotation;
- gingival smile, using LM-activator as a detailer and retention appliance after treatment with a brace system, is possible.
Contraindications to use are:
- class III Angle anomalies (mesial bite);
- displacement of the central line exceeding 3 mm;
- significant narrowing of the upper jaw.
The treatment period depends on the patient’s age and the nature and degree of the bite disorder. Considering the growth of the bones of the maxillofacial region in children, two or more trainers are required during treatment.
At What Age Is the LM-Activator Used?
The LM-Activator can be used at different ages – your dentist will determine the best time. Some children will notice the benefits of treatment as early as age 5 or 6.
When the first deciduous tooth on the upper jaw falls out, the opportunity to guide tooth and jaw development is extremely wide, as the roots of the permanent teeth are not yet fully formed. While the roots of the teeth are still in a state of growth, it is much easier to move the teeth into their proper position. Older patients with severe bite irregularities require other orthodontic appliances that apply stronger forces.
What Are the Advantages of the LM-activator?
- The smooth, flexible silicone, anatomical shape with rounded edges makes the LM-Activator comfortable and handy.
- The silicone itself is soft, which means no softeners are needed. The LM-activator does not use any additives, such as colourants, fragrances, phthalates, bisphenol, or latex.
- The LM-activator is easy to clean and can be disinfected with boiled water if necessary (e.g. when having flu).
The LM-activator is a removable appliance that has many advantages over non-removable metal braces, including:
- the ability to eat any type of food normally;
- the ability to brush your teeth and the appliance normally;
- the ability to play sports or have increased physical activity;
- LM-activator is easy to use; no metal braces are required.
